2008 Promotion of Private Enterprises/Organizations Green Consumption & Green Procurement

The project on “private sector green consumption and purchasing” was first piloted by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) with the local environmental protection bureaus during the second half of 2006 and then officially rolled out through this project in fiscal year 2007. In 2008, this project is being continued based on 2007’s achievements and has completed the following additional tasks: (1) established the administration and assignment mechanism for seed instructors to provide assistance to promotion of private sector green procurement; (2) assisted various government agencies and local environmental protection bureaus in organizing 30 green consumption promotion and exhibition activities; (3) provided assistance to the implementation of “Project on promoting private enterprises and organizations’ green purchasing activities” with compilation of result statistics and meeting logistics; (4) developed, designed and produced 250 Green Living Toolbox promotional materials for use by EPA, local environmental protection bureaus and seed instructors in their conducts of promotional activities; (5) continued to revise the green store establishment and implementation rules and developed review criteria and implementation procedure for green stores; (6) conducted 300 on-site audits of green stores approved by local governments using the seed instructors as auditors; (7) organized the Second Green Marketing Award and encouraged department stores, wholesale warehouses, supermarkets, franchised stores and retailers to showcase their Green Mark products and encourage consumers to purchase green products; (8) developed examples for private sector’s green purchasing policy, program and introduction procedure; (9) assisted private enterprises in establishing green purchasing policy and relevant procedures; (10) assisted 10 communities in establishing green purchasing platforms to provide residents with green consumption information and green product purchasing channel; (11) planning visits to franchised stores, wholesale warehouses, supermarkets and their head offices to encourage them to increase purchases of green products and promotion of Green Mark products; (12) gathering other countries’ information, regulations and experiences in promoting private sector and institutional green purchasing as reference for competent authorities.
